Edie Dykeman - An Introduction

My name is Edie Dykeman and I would like to welcome you to my author blog. Although I have been writing for many years as a journalist and blogger, I did not publish until just recently. During the late 1990's and into the 2000's I spent a lot of time on Yahoo Groups and other journal websites. In 2007 I started creating blogs on Blogger and soon after, built my own stand-alone websites and niche blogs.

Now I am going back to my original roots of writing for publication. I'm excited to say I have published two books through Amazon Kindle - a series titled Caring for Aging Parents. There are two books published so far with at least one more to come.

The first book is Sundown Syndrome, a medical condition that can affect those who struggle with dementia. This short, concise book will help caregivers understand what their loved on is going through.

The second book is Caregiver Burnout, and is written from my own experience caring for my father. He has just turned 90-years-old and has been a handful for a while now. Not only did I experience burnout for almost two years, but my health was affected as well.

Through sheer willpower and gleaning as much knowledge as I could, I've pretty much come out of the burnout situation and am back on my typical happy, joking, irreverent self. I intent to stay that way although Dad's struggle with Alzheimer's is going to be a challenge.

The next project we plan is a shared book that will include my sister's time as caregiver to our mother who had TIA dementia and her two years with Dad before I came in to take over in 2006. Hopefully we will be able to help new caregivers as they enter into this challenging but often fulfilling time in their lives.

You will read more about the individual books in separate posts. Thanks for reading this far and I hope you feel free to leave a comment.
